Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a ceremony introducing the new commander of the Southeast Regional Headquarters in Kerman on Saturday, General Jahanshahi emphasized that the security initiatives are closely linked to the region’s sensitive and strategic nature.
He noted that the army has expanded its units both in quantity and quality, given the importance of the Southeastern Regional Headquarters and the vast provinces under its jurisdiction—Kerman, Sistan and Baluchistan, and Hormozgan—as well as their shared borders with Afghanistan and Pakistan.
According to Jahanshahi, access to the Sea of Oman, gateway to the Persian Gulf and the Indian Ocean, further underscores the strategic significance of the southeastern region.
Outlining the measures in place, he highlighted the constant monitoring of the eastern borders, particularly through reconnaissance and combat drones. “These units have also implemented strong electronic security measures for border monitoring and control, while establishing bases and constructing towers,” he added.
Sistan and Baluchestan province, bordering Pakistan, has faced frequent terrorist attacks targeting both civilians and security forces in recent years.
