Iran showcases naval strength, innovation at Pakistan’s maritime conference

A high-ranking Iranian naval delegation has arrived in Pakistan’s port city of Karachi to attend Pakistan International Maritime Expo & Conference (PIMEC) 2025, hailed as the country’s largest and most prestigious maritime exhibition.

The four-member delegation led by Navy Captain Daryoush Eskandari has reached the city’s Jinnah International Airport to attend the second edition of the event, Iranian media outlets reported on Monday. Upon arrival, it was warmly received by Pakistani officials and Colonel Mohammad Mohsen Shahabi, Iran’s military attaché in Islamabad.

For the first time during the event, Iran has set up its own pavilion, displaying the country’s latest indigenous achievements in defensive naval technology, the reports noted.

The pavilion is to showcase the progress made by the Islamic Republic’s homegrown industries in such areas as shipbuilding, marine engineering, and coastal security.

The opening ceremony of PIMEC 2025 is to be attended by Pakistan’s Navy Commander Admiral Naveed Ashraf and representatives from 44 countries, underscoring the event’s global significance.

With 28 international and 150 domestic exhibitors, the exhibition brings together industry leaders, policymakers, and researchers to explore future opportunities in the maritime domain.

According to Pakistan’s Navy, the exhibition also serves as a vital platform for governments, private companies, and innovators to showcase their products, foster cooperation, and exchange expertise in the expanding maritime economy.

At a press briefing, Vice Admiral Mohammad Faisal Abbasi, commander of the Karachi Naval Area, announced that a two-day International Maritime Conference will be held alongside the exhibition.

The conference brings together global experts and strategists to discuss this year’s theme, namely “Harnessing the Potential of Maritime Economy for Sustainable Development.”

Observers commenting on the reports said the Iranian delegation’s participation in the exhibition marks the country’s ongoing efforts at fostering international naval and maritime cooperation as witnessed by its partaking in various joint drills with foreign navies and expressing openness towards further boosting bilateral and multilateral synergy in the area.

On October 25, Rear Admiral Alireza Tangsiri, commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy, said the Persian Gulf’s littoral states had expressed their readiness to hold joint naval exercises with Iran.

“We firmly believe that the regional countries themselves are fully capable of maintaining the security of this strategic waterway, and there is no need for the presence of foreign powers,” he said at the time.

In January, the commander announced that advanced domestically-built drones operated by the IRGC Navy had successfully deployed AI-enabled precision missiles during a major naval exercise in the Persian Gulf.

Three months later, Iran, Lebanon, Iraq, and Yemen conducted a joint naval parade in solidarity with the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip amid the Israeli regime’s war of genocide on the coastal sliver.

The coordinated exercise unfolded on March 27 across the Persian Gulf, the Makran coastal region, and the Caspian Sea, spanning Iran’s northern and southern waters.
