Addressing a ceremony at the Army Command and Staff University on Monday, General Hatami said Iran was attacked while it was engaged in negotiations, contrary to the enemies’ attempt to insinuate that problems, sanctions, and even the 8-year Iraq-imposed war were the result of the Islamic Republic system.
“Considering Iran’s strategic position, and a brief look at its history is enough to prove the lies of the enemies,” he emphasized, noting that the goal of the previous imposed war was to strike at the fledgling Islamic Revolution, which was foiled by the Iranians.
Stating that the Iranian nation had experienced countless atrocities at the hands of hegemonic powers, he said the Saddam regime made Iran the target of its aggression with the aim of harming the Islamic establishment, with the comprehensive support of the West.
General Hatami commended the Iranian nation for preserving the lofty ideal of independence, freedom, and the Islamic establishment, which he said put an end to the conspiracy and plunder in this land.
In another part of his remarks, the Army chief emphasized the need for the army to benefit from the experiences gained in the recent war. “We experienced a combined war up close, and this unique skill should be used to the maximum,” he added.
The top commander also underscored that the Iranian soil is full of potential, which makes the responsibility of the army even heavier, given constant threats to sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Calling war veterans and martyrs an honor to the army and the country, General Hatami said, “If the Iranian nation declares that it will not submit to oppression and surrender and will fight with all its might for victory, it is because of the pure blood of martyrs.”
