Persian Gulf: Unity or Playing into the Enemy’s Hands?

The Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), once again repeating baseless claims against Iran, seeks to intensify division in the region. Tehran considers convergence and dialogue with its neighbors as the core of its policy and warns that any move undermining regional security and unity is tantamount to playing into the enemy’s hands.

Nournews: The recent PGCC statement regarding the three islands—Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb, and Abu Musa—and its allegations over the Arash gas field is yet another example of the council’s misplaced positions. Historical experience shows that, under the influence of foreign actors and short-term opportunism, regional states have occasionally issued unfounded statements against Iran’s territorial integrity. Such actions are not only inconsistent with historical realities but also jeopardize regional security by promoting short-sighted and irresponsible policies. Regional countries must act with vigilance and prevent the repetition of such mistakes, focusing instead on the true interests of their peoples and collective security.

Iran: A Model of Convergence and Dialogue
The Islamic Republic of Iran has consistently placed interaction and cooperation with neighbors at the heart of its foreign policy. By leveraging the mediating role of other countries—such as China’s role in restoring relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia—Tehran has sought to resolve misunderstandings through dialogue. Iran’s defense capabilities have also always been employed to safeguard regional security and confront terrorist threats as well as the aggressions of the Zionist regime and the United States. This combination of deterrence and a convergence-oriented policy reflects Tehran’s commitment to regional security without compromising its national rights.

Division: The Enemy’s Tool
The United States and the Zionist regime have long pursued scenarios of sowing division in the region. Under such circumstances, any behavior undermining regional unity or diverting governments and public opinion from the Palestinian issue directly amounts to playing the enemy’s game. Tehran has repeatedly warned against divisive policies and urged Arab states to abandon counterproductive behaviors and focus on genuine cooperation and regional convergence. The foremost priority for the region today is the Palestinian cause and support for the people of Gaza, and any move against it risks provoking widespread negative reactions.

A Shared Lesson for the Region
Recent developments have shown that reliance on external players has brought no benefit to Arab states but has instead imposed heavy costs on them. Europe’s experience, as well as that of certain U.S.-dependent governments, demonstrates that unilateral policies lead only to crisis. Today, more than ever, it is clear that the only safe and sustainable path for the region lies in dialogue, convergence, and respect for historical and geographical realities. If Iran’s neighbors focus on cooperation and unity instead of repeating empty claims, they will be able to secure their common interests and safeguard regional security against its real adversaries.
