Iran’s FM hails China’s support in face of US-Israeli war

Iran’s foreign minister has appreciated China’s condemnation of the aggression by Israel and the United States against the country’s territorial integrity and national sovereignty, voicing Tehran’s readiness to further develop friendly ties.

In a meeting with his Chinese counterpart on the sidelines of the 25th Meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in China on Wednesday, Araghchi thanked Beijing for its “principled, constructive, and influential” position in international forums, particularly at UN Security Council meetings, in condemning the aggressions against Iran.

He briefed his Chinese counterpart on the latest developments following these aggressions and the cessation of hostilities, emphasizing the responsibility of the UN Security Council and all governments to uphold peace and security in the region and the world.

Araghchi also reaffirmed the Iranian government’s serious commitment to enhancing comprehensive friendly relations within the framework of a strategic partnership based on mutual respect and trust.

Wang Yi, for his part, commended Iran’s responsible and intelligent approach in preventing the escalation of tensions and conflict in the region.

He emphasized China’s firm stance in supporting Iran’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, and national security and opposing bullying, unilateralism, and the use of force, while advocating diplomacy and dialogue to resolve issues and disputes.

The Chinese minister also emphasized the importance of ongoing bilateral and multilateral efforts to prevent further regional tensions and declared China’s readiness to assist in this regard through international forums, particularly at the United Nations Security Council.

During the meeting, the Iranian and Chinese foreign ministers also reviewed the current status of bilateral agreements and cooperation projects in various economic and commercial sectors.

They discussed opportunities and capacities for expanding relations, particularly by leveraging China’s presidency of the SCO and Iran’s active participation in upcoming events of the organization.
