Reporters from Reuters, Associated Press, Rossiya Al-Youm, Al Arabi, Al Jazeera, CCTV, and Anadolu Agency were among those who toured sections of the prison struck by what Iranian authorities described as a terrorist attack by Israel on June 23, a day before a ceasefire came into effect, Mizan reported.
Anadolu Agency published a report titled “Anadolu Documents Damage from Israeli Attack on Tehran’s Evin Prison,” detailing widespread destruction at the site.
According to Anadolu, the strike hit Evin’s administrative building, hospital building, prosecutor’s office, and visitation hall, causing particularly extensive damage to the administrative section. Inside, furniture and documents were scattered and torn apart, and books in the library, including copies of the Quran, were damaged.
While the hospital sustained less visible structural damage than the administrative offices, Anadolu reported that the impact was still serious and significant. The building’s outer façade was partially damaged, windows were shattered, and clinic rooms suffered heavy destruction. Stretchers and medical equipment were rendered unusable.
Anadolu stressed that the airstrike occurred during scheduled family visitations. The visitation hall was heavily damaged, resulting in deaths and injuries among prisoners, detainees, and their families.
The agency added that the building housing the visitation hall was severely damaged, and several nearby buildings and vehicles were also affected by the attack.
