Iran’s exports down 14.4% y/y in H1 calendar year: IRICA

Iranian customs office (IRICA) figures show the country’s non-oil exports fell by 14.4% in the first quarter of the calendar year which began in late March.

IRICA figures released on Monday showed that Iran had exported $11.655 billion worth of goods and commodities in the three months to June 21.

Shipments also fell by 9.3% in volume terms compared to the same quarter last year to reach 34.476 million metric tons (mt), the figures showed.

The country gained an average of $338 for each mt of its export shipments over the period, according to the data.

IRICA said that petrochemicals had accounted for 11.133 million mt worth $4.684 billion of Iran's exports over the June quarter, down 24.5% from the same quarter last year.

Iran sold $1.485 billion worth of liquefied propane and liquefied butane in the three months to late June, while methanol and bitumen shipments generated some $1.15 billion in revenues, said the Iranian customs office, adding that the country had exported $0.456 billion worth of natural gas over the same period.

China was the largest buyer of Iranian non-oil exports in the June quarter as the country was responsible for $3.511 billion worth of purchases, IRICA figures showed.

The data showed that exports to Iraq and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) had reached $1.905 billion and $1.592 billion, respectively, over the same period.

IRICA said that Iran had imported just over 9 million mt of goods and commodities worth $13.029 billion in the three months to late June, respectively down 4.35% and 11.73% in volume and value terms year on year.

Gold continued to top the list of Iranian import items over the quarter with some $0.965 billion of shipments registered, followed by animal feed corn at $0.883 and rice at $0.5 billion, its figures showed.

The UAE, the main re-exporting hub in the Persian Gulf, was the largest exporter to Iran in the three months to late June with $3.886 billion worth of shipments, followed by China at $3.428 billion and Turkey at $1.986 billion, the data showed.
