Dual messages of Washington under Tehran’s scrutiny: Araghchi answers

Announcing that the 4th round of negotiations between Iran and the U.S. will be held on Sunday, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, stated the continuation of regional consultations with Saudi Arabia and Qatar and emphasized that the negotiations are progressing, although the American side sends contradictory messages.

Nournews: Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, in an interview, announced that the 4th round of talks between Tehran and Washington would be held this Sunday and provided details about his trip to Saudi Arabia and Qatar in the context of regional consultations.

We are waiting for Oman’s response about the time of negotiations

Announcing that Tehran-Washington negotiations will take place on Sunday in Oman, Araghchi said, “Regarding the start time of the negotiations, we are waiting for a response from the Omani side.” He further explained, “The time and venue of the talks will be determined by the host country, Oman. Our Omani friends asked us about Sunday, and we expressed our agreement. They have apparently spoken with the other side, and as of now, Sunday has been confirmed as the day for negotiations. Regarding the time of the talks, we are awaiting Oman’s response.”

Negotiations are progressing

Araghchi stated, “In any case, the talks are progressing, and it is natural that the further we progress, the more consultations and investigations are needed, and the negotiating teams require more time to examine the proposals. However, the most important thing is that we are moving forward in the negotiations.”

Contradictory messages from the U.S.

In response to a reporter’s question about the daily changes from the other side while Iran’s negotiating team remains professional, Araghchi said, “Our position in negotiations is very principled, and therefore it is unchanging. We are following a principled path. However, you are right: we are receiving contradictory messages from the other side. This is a problem of the job. Different individuals provide different statements. Sometimes, they change their position on the same day. Some believe this is due to the new U.S. government taking office and that they are still settling in or have not finalized their positions. Others see it as a part of their deceptive tactics.”

Visiting Saudi Arabia and Qatar in continuation of regional consultations

Seyed Abbas Araghchi said that he would travel to Saudi Arabia and Qatar on Saturday to continue consultations regarding regional issues and indirect talks with the U.S. He stated, “We have had continuous consultations and ongoing communication with regional countries because we believe the sustainability of any potential agreement largely depends on the concerns of the regional countries, their worries, and the shared interests between them and Iran, especially regarding the nuclear issue.”
