He made the remarks in an interview with Pakistan’s Samaa TV on Wednesday. Leading a delegation, the Iranian lawmaker arrived in Islamabad a day earlier to attend the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC), which is taking place over two days.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran believes that peace and security should prevail in all countries, particularly those in the region, and I state explicitly that we wish strength and empowerment for all regional nations,” Nikzad said.
He also criticized the United States and Israel for threatening peace in West Asia, adding that Washington does not want regional countries to maintain friendly relations.
“If we seek progress and development, there is no alternative but to foster good relations among ourselves. If insecurity arises in neighboring and regional countries, it will be troubling and detrimental to the entire region,” the Iranian MP said.
Further in his remarks, Nikzad said that Iran intends to expand political and economic relations with neighboring countries, particularly Pakistan.
“Both the Iranian administration and Parliament are determined to maintain trade ties with Pakistan,” he said, adding that bilateral trade currently stands at $3 billion a year and could be increased to $10 billion through precise planning.
