Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, wrote on his X account:
“For many people around the world, the Nobel Prize has long lost the credibility it was supposed to hold. The reason for this collapse is that the award has consistently been used as a tool to attack non-Western governments perceived as ‘enemies’ of Western interests.”
He added that awarding this year’s so-called “Peace Prize” to someone who in reality incites war against her own country while praising those responsible for genocide and war crimes in Palestine only reinforces this perception more than ever before.
This year’s Nobel Peace Prize winner, María Corina Machado, had previously announced in a social media post that she had a phone conversation with the Israeli Prime Minister. In that post, she labeled Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis as terrorists and expressed support for the Israeli regime’s atrocities in Gaza. She has also called for the implementation of Trump-era plans, including military intervention against her own country.
