Araghchi and Ryzhenkov met on Thursday in Kampala, Uganda, on the sidelines of the 19th Mid-Term Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).
The two ministers reviewed the progress of cooperation between their countries in various economic, commercial, and diplomatic fields. They expressed confidence that, given the mutual willingness of their heads of state to expand relations, they would witness strengthened cooperation that benefits both peoples.
It was agreed that relevant meetings regarding the Joint Economic Commission would be pursued seriously to follow up on the agreements made during Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s visit to Minsk.
During their discussions, Araghchi and Ryzhenkov also addressed the increasing trend of unilateralism and the use of force, emphasizing the importance of strengthening the Non-Aligned Movement's role in preventing violations of international norms and preserving multilateralism.
The ministers emphasized the necessity of continued coordination and mutual cooperation at international organizations and through multilateral and regional arrangements.
Araghchi articulated Iran's position on nuclear issues, condemning the irresponsible actions of Western parties in misusing the UN Security Council to reinstate lifted resolutions against Iran. He described the move as part of a political campaign of maximum pressure against the Iranian nation and urged UN member states, particularly those in the Non-Aligned Movement, to reject the politicized approach of the three European countries – namely Britain, France, and Germany – and refrain from any actions that would serve their interests.
