Iran and Japan start new chapter in scientific cooperation

Iranian Minister of Science, Research and Technology Hossein Simaee has met and held talks with Japanese Ambassador to Iran Tamaki Tsukada on the eve of his trip to Japan to participate in the 22nd session of the Science and Technology in Society forum (STS).

On Wednesday, in a meeting with Tamaki Tsukada, the Japanese Ambassador to Iran, which was held at the Ministry of Science, Simaee considered the meeting the beginning of more serious cooperation in the future.

He expressed hope that both countries would benefit from mutual cooperation for the advancement of science and technology, because according to UNESCO recommendations, sanctions do not include the field of science and technology; science and research cannot be sanctioned.

Saying that Iranians have a positive and good mentality towards Japan, and even in terms of culture, our affinity and closeness to Japan has become greater than before, he added: "We know many Japanese writers, Islamic thinkers, and Quran scholars; one of the prominent figures that Iranian people know well is Izutsu, who died in the 1990s and holds a special place among Iranians."

The Japanese ambassador to Iran also said in the meeting: "Despite various limitations, the field of science and technology is considered a suitable platform for maintaining and strengthening bilateral relations between Iran and Japan."
