Iran, Uzbekistan stress strengthening coop. in all fields

Officials from Iran and Republic of Uzbekistan emphasized the need to strengthen cooperation in the political, economic and cultural fields.

Chairman of Iran-Uzbekistan Parliamentary Friendship Group Hojjatoleslam Javad Nikbin said that Uzbekistan is one of Iran's most important civilizational partners, and relations with this country can be beyond political, economic, and cultural fields.

Cities such as Samarkand and Bukhara played a very special role in the formation of Iranian-Islamic civilization, and this role has led to the existence of numerous common landmarks and intangible heritage between Iran and Uzbekistan, he emphasized.

Iran and Uzbekistan have greater potential for cooperation at the geoeconomic level, he said, adding that corridors such as Trans-Afghan Corridor is a factor for greater convergence between the two countries.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Hojjatoleslam Nikbin pointed to the cultural field, adding, “Despite the existence of many opportunities and commonalities, there is still a great potential for strengthening and developing cooperation.”

The flow of tourism between the two countries can be formed at a very high level and lead to cultural vicinity of the nations. The common heritage and famous figures such as Alisher Navai, Avicenna, or Al-Khwarizmi are considered an important foundation for the development of relations between the two countries in the cultural field, he added.
