This transfer was carried out in accordance with the prisoner swap agreement established between Iran and Belgium, said Askar Jalalian, the Deputy for Human Rights and International Affairs at the Ministry of Justice and head of the Convicted Prisoners Transfer Committee.
Jalalian highlighted on Tuesday that the collaborative efforts of various entities, including the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the judiciary, the Tehran Prosecutor's Office, and the Prisons Organization, in facilitating the transfer of prisoners.
He further emphasized that one of the fundamental goals of such agreements is to ensure humanitarian and human rights support for prisoners. Since the beginning of this Iranian calendar year (starting on March 21, 2025), over 200 foreign prisoners have been transferred from Iran to their home countries, while 160 Iranians incarcerated abroad have returned to Iran, the official added.
The deputy minister also noted that the transfer process not only respects the dignity of the prisoners but also considers the rights of their families, emphasizing the importance of social reintegration for returning inmates.
