Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in New York early on Monday to participate in the 80th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 80).
During the visit, he will participate in sessions, present Iran’s views, and hold meetings with international counterparts and the media.
The top Iranian diplomat is also set to meet with officials from Britain, France, and Germany, the so-called E3, in New York. Iran's talks with three European countries, Germany, France, and the UK, will be held in New York at the level of foreign ministers, with the participation of the EU Foreign Policy Chief Kaja Kallas.
On the sidelines of the UNGA summit in New York, Araghchi met with Mohi El-Din Salem, Foreign Minister of Sudan; Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister of Oman; Radosław Sikorski, Foreign Minister of Poland; Beate Meinl-Reisinger, Foreign Minister of Austria; and Badr Abdelatty, Foreign Minister of Egypt, to review the latest regional and global developments.
Meeting and consultations with Austria's Foreign Minister
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also met and held talks with his Austrian counterpart, Beate Meinl-Reisinger, in New York on the sidelines of the 80th UN General Assembly (UNGA) meeting.
During the meeting, the two top diplomats exchanged their views on the bilateral ties and issues of mutual interest.
Meeting and consultations with Poland’s Foreign Minister
In this meeting, in addition to bilateral relations, discussions covered issues related to international peace and security, including the conflict in Ukraine and developments in West Asia.
The Foreign Minister, referring to the misguided approaches of the three European countries regarding Iran’s nuclear issue, stressed the need for all parties to act responsibly and avoid complicating the situation further.
Araghchi described the aggressive attacks by the Zionist regime and the United States against Iran, which damaged Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities, as an unprecedented violation of the rule of law and a dangerous sign of the law of the jungle prevailing in international relations. Pointing to the consequences of any indifference toward the spread of such lawlessness, he called on all countries to adhere to the principles and purposes of the UN Charter.
Meeting and consultations with Oman’s Foreign Minister
In this meeting, the two sides discussed Iran-Oman bilateral relations as well as regional and international developments, including the situation in occupied Palestine and the need for global action to stop the genocide of Palestinians and to prosecute and punish Zionist regime officials in competent international courts.
The two ministers also exchanged views on Iran’s nuclear issue.
Iran’s Foreign Minister recalled the importance of responsibility on the part of European parties and recognition of Iran’s responsible approach regarding the nuclear issue, stressing the necessity of Western commitments to lift the unjust sanctions against Iran. He also warned of the consequences of any miscalculation in relation to Iran’s nuclear matter.
Meeting and consultations with Sudan’s Foreign Minister
In this meeting, the two sides exchanged views on Iran-Sudan bilateral relations and the importance of expanding cooperation in all areas of mutual interest, including economic and trade, science and technology, agriculture, and mining.
They also discussed the importance of greater unity and cooperation among Islamic countries to confront common threats and challenges—particularly resisting the genocide of Palestinians and the warmongering of the Zionist regime against Islamic states.
The Sudanese Foreign Minister, while providing a report on Sudan’s latest internal situation, emphasized his country’s determination to counter insecurity and foreign interference in its internal affairs until full peace and stability are achieved.
