The action was carried out with the aim of furthering the genocidal policy in the occupied Palestine and continuing the cruel and inhumane blockade, as well as exacerbating the ongoing famine and starvation on the defenseless people of Gaza, the Iranian diplomat said on Sunday night.
Baqaei also said that the attack on Handala aid ship, which followed a similar raid on another humanitarian vessel Madeleine in June, “is a blatant violation of the principles and rules of international law and must be condemned by all governments and international organizations.”
The spokesperson emphasized the urgent need to lift the imposed blockade on Gaza, ensure the immediate and sufficient arrival of humanitarian aid to the territory, and distribute aid solely through recognized international mechanisms.
The Israeli regime’s forces attacked Handala in international waters late on Saturday and kidnapped 21 activists aboard, who were carrying humanitarian aid to Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip. It was the third humanitarian ship of the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, which was attacked by Israel in international waters since May.
